As I say goodbye to 2013 and welcome whatever 2014 will bring, I have such a feeling of satisfaction. I finally put together a novel and released it to the world. In fact, I released two novels and three short stories! For someone who does not write a novel every week, that is a big accomplishment. I sometimes catch myself shaking my head and wondering why it took eight years to accomplish this goal.

I say pros because there are zero cons to using an outline when writing. Even if it’s a short story, an outline can’t possibly hurt you. I don’t mean those strict, roman numeral followed by a certain number of spaces outlines that your fifth grade English teacher made you use. I’m talking about your own personal outline that fits your personal writing style.
There is a lot of information out there regarding self publishing that illustrates the pros and cons. I won’t focus too much on all of that, since it’s readily available. Instead, I will focus on the reasons why I personally chose to self-publish. I’m not here to bash traditional publishers or those who have gone the traditional route. I chose to be an indie author, and I’d like to explain why I came to that decision.
